Harness: Leading trainer Rene Allard joins the indictment list

Leading Standardbred trainer Rene Allard was arrested and joined the list of 28 other indicted individuals for his role in potential horse-doping and other illegal activities.
According to the papers obtained by Harness Racing Update’s Bill Finley, numerous empty syringes and bottles of various drugs were found on the premises of his barn.
In addition, a text message was reportedly sent by Allard to the also indicted Louis Grasso stating, “I will need 3 bottles of red Acid to go to Canada Thursday.” Red Acid is an industry name for customized PEDs.
Finally, the indictment includes a conversation between Grasso and former trainer Ross Cohen in which they discuss the number of horses that had perished under the care of Allard. Cohen reportedly said, “What’s going on with the Allard Death camp?” and Grasso responded with laughter. Later in the call Cohen asked how many horses died and Grasso said, “Three or two maybe three.”
Rene Allard, 33, finished third in North America among trainers in earnings in 2019 with $5,875,255. His 339 wins also ranked third. Allard's top horse, When Dovescry, won the Hambletonian Oaks and was named 3-year-old Filly Trotter of the Year.
