Ontario-based sire Kadabra was the star of the show in Thursday night's session at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale as two of his fillies led the way, including HIP 432 Up And Ready who sold for $300,000.

Up And Ready, selling from the consignment of agent Preferred Equine Marketing, Inc.,was purchased by James B. Glass. She's out of Glide By, a Yankee Glide half-sister to double millionaire and world champion Maven. Glide By has also produced the likes of Nows The Moment (Credit Winner, $157,437).

Prior to Up And Ready taking over the night's top slot, the highest seller had been HIP 345 Magic Beauty, who was taken by agent David McDuffee for $180,000. This daughter of Kadabra is the second foal out of Magic Marker (Andover Hall, $158,775), and her 2-year-old full brother Magic Bob qualified for the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots Championship on Saturday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Magic Beauty was part of the Peninsula Farm, Inc. (agent) consignment.

"I looked at her about three times out there. She's a beautiful filly. I bought the brother last year, and he was a gorgeous colt. He didn't turn out to be very good, but that's a nice family. Beautiful horse, everything perfect about it. I love Kadabras. I've had a lot of success with them, so let's take a shot," remarked McDuffee. "I didn't want to go that far. It's quite a bit more than I thought. I thought it would sell for $120,000 to be honest with you. It's the only one I'm buying tonight."

New Jersey sire Trixton also had a strong seller during the night, with HIP 380 Garnsey going for $170,000 to Paul Kelley. Garnsey is out of Quick Credit (Credit Winner, $530,193), making him a half-brother to Wheeling N Dealin (Cantab Hall, $913,975). Garnsey also sold for Peninsula Farm.

The top selling pacer on Thursday was HIP 375 Captain Terror, who went to Lindy Farms for $150,000. A Captaintreacherous colt, he's the first foal out of Pink Terror, a full sister to Beyond Delight (Bettor's Delight, $485,365). The third dam is World Order, the dam of Worldly Beauty.

Completing the top five for the night was HIP 434 Saratoga Al. Another yearling offered by agent Peninsula Farm, Inc., Saratoga Al was grabbed by Courant Inc. for $120,000. A Cantab Hall-Bavarde colt, he's a three-quarter brother to Super Schissel (Uncle Peter, $358,872).

Eight yearlings cracked six figures in total on Thursday night, and that helped this session finish up 6.1 percent year-over-year on average. The gross for the 173 horses sold tonight was $7,656,000 and the average was $44,254. In last year’s third session, 162 yearlings fetched a total of $6,756,000, good for an average of $41,704. In all, the 2019 sale is up 7.33 percent on average over last year’s sale through the first three sessions.

It has definitely been a boom market for trotters through the first three nights, with the 123 trotting colts bringing an average of $98,106 and the 123 trotting fillies fetching an average of $86,520. 131 pacing colts have gone through the ring, selling for an average of $75,802, and pacing fillies round things out, with 88 of them going for an average of $71,489.

While Father Patrick had the sale topper at $1.1 million in HIP 44 Maverick, Muscle Hill is slightly out-averaging him, with his 52 babies fetching an average of $132,538 to Father Patrick’s $120,256 for his 43 sellers. Somebeachsomewhere, Chapter Seven, and Cantab Hall round out the top five on average.

There are two nights remaining at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. Friday night will see HIPS 491-662 go through the ring, and then HIPS 665-796 will sell on Saturday. Both sessions will begin at 7 P.M.
