Harness: Hoosier hotshots top PEO Mixed Sale

webmaster|Jan 23, 2023
Ponda Adventure 7-21-22

A pair of Indiana's fastest 3-year-olds of the 2022 racing season - the now 4-year-old trotter Ponda Adventure and pacer Sure Thing Herman - sold for the highest prices at the Jan. 23 Preferred Equine Online Mixed Sale.

Both six-figure sellers were consigned by PEO as agent for trainer Erv Miller and the horses' owners.

The nearly unbeatable Ponda Adventure 3,1:52 2/5 ($685,037), a winner of 22 of 28 starts and 19 stakes races at 2 and 3, topped the auction with a purchase price of $130,000. The Swan For All gelding, who closed out his 2022 campaign by winning four open stakes at Hoosier Park, was bought by Andy Willinger.

Sure Thing Herman p,3,1:49 2/5 ($187,887), hammered down for $110,000, was purchased by Marc Reynolds as agent for Tom Pollack. The Tellitlikeitis gelding filled his bank account with more than $187,000 in earnings last year alone and was runner-up in both the Circle City and Pegasus Stakes.

Sale proprietor and manager David Reid was pleased with both the results and the overall participation at this and previous sales.

"It's been almost a year now since we launched our online sales division," he said. "First and foremost, I've been most pleased with the continued success sale horses have had for their new owners, and also, how the sales have been received across the industry.

"There are no boundaries with our online sales. Participation in our new sales platform has come from literally everywhere...Europe, Southern Hemisphere, East Coast, West Coast, Canada and the Midwest. That was the case once again at this week's sale."

In addition to racehorses - the bread and butter of these sales - broodmares and stallion shares were also on offer Jan. 23.

Another Indiana-bred, the stakes winner Four Under Par 4,1:53 2/5f, led the seven broodmare prospects and in-foal broodmares that were sold. The $203,000 earner by Swan For All was purchased by Midnight Sun Partners for $58,000 after being sold by PEO for VIP Stable.

A share in Father Patrick, whose son Greenshoe led all stallions in yearling average at last fall's Lexington Selected Sale, was sold as agent for Brittany Farms and went to Patrick Maleitzke/Schockemöhle for $30,000.

In all, 28 of 35 lots on offer were sold for $632,500. Horses not sold are still listed on the Jan. 23 sale page, with "make offer" noted on each.

Preferred Equine Online is back to its every other week sale schedule, with the next auction slated for Monday, Feb. 6. Entries are currently being accepted at preferredequineonline.com.
