Harness: Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale ends with year-over-year boosts in gross, average
The 2020 Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale wrapped up on Saturday, and when the dust had settled, the sale finished up 7.1 percent year-over-year on gross and 6.5 percent on average.
The sale total climbed from $6,454,000 (358 horses sold) last year to $6,912,800 (360 horses sold) this year, and the average rose from $18,028 in 2019 to $19,202 in 2020. For just Saturday's second session, the sum was $2,973,100 for 177 head that passed through the ring, an increase from last year when 172 yearlings were purchased for $2,861,000. The average for Saturday was $16,797, basically level with 2019's $16,634.
The top-selling yearling on Saturday was HIP 328 Shared By Me, a JK Endofanera colt purchased by Tom Pollack for $82,000. Bred by Victory Hill Farm, Inc., Shared By Me is out of the Rocknroll Hanover mare Sorcha Bluestone, making him a half-brother to the likes of Sportswriter gelding Simple Kinda Man (1:51 2/5, $234,693).
