Harness: Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale concludes
The Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale for 2018 wrapped up on Saturday, and the average and gross for the sale were both virtually flat year-over-year.
Saturday's session and the sale overall were headed by HIP 302 Bluebird Keepsake, a Swan For All filly who went to agent Dan Shetler for $125,000. Bluebird Keepsake, consigned by Bluebird Meadows, is the first foal out of Yankee Glide mare Changed It All ($158,583).
There was one other six-figure seller on the day, and it was the very next yearling offered, HIP 303 Meadowbrook Chip. Meadowbrook Chip, consigned by Meadowbrook Farm, went to The Kales Company for exactly $100,000. Meadowbrook Chip is a colt from the first crop of Whom Shall I Fear (a full brother to Father Patrick) and is out of Chips Goddess (Pine Chip), making Meadowbrook Chip a half-brother to Meadowbrook Grace (Swan For All, $306,983).
For Saturday's session 170 yearlings sold for an average of $18,529 and a gross of $3,150,000. These numbers virtually mirrored the second day of last year's Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale when 172 head sold for an average of $18,320 and a gross of $3,151,000.
The two days overall saw 354 horses go through the ring for an average of $19,449 and a sum of $6,885,000. Again, this was very close to the numbers from last year's sale when 355 yearlings fetched an average of $19,527 and a gross of $6,932,000.
