Harness: Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale commences

The first session of the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale is in the books. The sale had healthy bidding with four bringing six figures through the ring, including Ponda Jewel, purchased by Peter Wrenn as agent for McDuffee and L & L Devisser.

Selling as Hip No. 154 out of 215, Ponda Jewel is a first foal from the Muscle Hill mare, Aperfectcrystal, who has a mark of 1:54 2/5 with more than $50,000 on her card. She is a half-sister to the standout trotting horse Aperfectyankee, winner of more than $588,000 with a mark of 1:53. The black type continues under the second dam, including A Perfect Gem (1:55 3/5, $192,000) and A Perfect Helen (1:54 2/5, $187,000). Ponda Jewel is by Swan for All and brings the new bloodline into Indiana for the first time. She is from the very successful breeding operation of Pond-A-Acres in New Haven, Ind.

Joining Ponda Jewel as six figure seller was Martz Jak, consigned by Rollin Acres as agent for Martz Creek Farm. Martz Jak brought $108,000 through the sales ring and comes with a pretty impressive maternal family that includes Rose Run Uriah (1:50, $414,000), Rose Run Vision (1:50, $395,000), Rose Run Toni (1:52 4/5, $282,000) and the red-hot Martz Telly, who is racing in Breeders Crown eliminations Friday at Harrah's Hoosier Park. That Tellitlikeitis 2-year-old colt is seven-for-10 this season with a mark of 1:51 2/5 and over $200,000 in earnings. Martz Jak is a son of JK Endofanera and was purchased for $108,000 by Pat DeLong.

Hopeyaliketheshow, also a son of JK Endofanera, is a second foal from the mare Don't Forget and was knocked down in the ring for $100,000. Ron Burke was the winning bidder of the colt, whose second dam is the great Remember When, winner of more than $900,000 and the dam of Reflect with Me with a mark of 1:48 2/5 and more than $782,000 in earnings. Hopeyaliketheshow sold as Hip No. 115 from the Wilt Standardbred consignment.

The final six-figure yearling for the first session was Ponda Ferarri, a half-brother to the great Ponda Warrior. Selling for $100,000, he was the first one to move into six-figure land, selling as Hip No. 75 to Tom Pollack for the Jeff Cullipher Stable. Consigned by Pond-A-Acres, Ponda Ferrari is from the mare Sweetnsinful, who has a mark of 1:50 4/5. In addition to Ponda Warrior, this year's Dan Patch Stakes winner, she has produced Sweet Sinsation with a mark of 1:56 3/5 and Ponda Executive, who has been race timed in 1:50 3/5 this year and has a mark of 1:53 3/5 as a 3-year-old in 2023.

According to the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale website, a total of 207 yearlings went through the sales ring during the first session for a total of $4.3 million. The average sales price was $20,820.

The second session of the Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale picks up Saturday, Oct. 21 with Hip No. 216, Big Swig, a son of Dover Dan from the Nissley Farm consignment. The sale begins at 10 a.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
