Harness: Glowing Lou lights up the board on Tuesday in Harrisburg

HIP 346 Glowing Lou, a Sweet Lou colt consigned by Vieux Carre' Farms, sold to Mac Nichol for $260,000 to head the second session of the Standardbred Horse Sale on Tuesday in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Glowing Lou's second dam is double millionaire, world champion and award winner Glowing Report.
Checking right in behind Glowing Lou was HIP 366 Travolta Hanover at $255,000. Purchased by agent Bryan Montgomery from breeder/consignor Hanover Shoe Farms, Travolta Hanover is a Muscle Hill colt from the family of $643K+ earner Fine Tuned Lady, the dam of millionaire Oh Well.
Trainer Chris Ryder went to $225,000 to get HIP 401 Verse Nine, a colt from the first crop of Gimpanzee. He was consigned by Anvil And Lace Farm. Another trotting colt, HIP 404 Wondrous Blue Chip checked in fourth on Tuesday's list, going to Serge Godin's Determination stable for $205,000. Wondrous Blue Chip, bred and consigned by Blue Chip Bloodstock, is a Father Patrick half-brother to $1.5 million earner Plunge Blue Chip.
Rounding out the top five sellers was HIP 252 Cafe Culture, who was grabbed by agent Andrew Harris for $195,000. Cafe Culture, a Stay Hungry colt, is a half-brother to $2.5M+ earner and multiple award winner Well Said. He was consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing for Fair Winds Farm and Steve Jones.

Through two days the sale is down year-over-year in both average ($60,187 versus $70,613) and gross ($29,913,000 versus $35,730,000). A total of 520 yearlings sold in the first two sessions a year ago, while 497 horses have gone through the ring so far in 2023.
The yearling-only portion of the Standardbred Horse Sale concludes tomorrow with HIPs 521-849. The action gets underway at 10 a.m. (EST). On Thursday and Friday, the mixed sale will take place, with "first post" on Thursday at 10 a.m. and at 11 a.m. on Friday.
