Harness: Gallie Bythe Beach shines as mixed sale begins in Harrisburg

The two-day mixed sale at the Standardbred Horse Sale in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, began on Thursday, and world champion Somebeachsomewhere mare Gallie Bythe Beach brought $280,000 from Hanover Shoe Farms Inc. to top the day.
Selling as HIP 1099, 7-year-old Gallie Bythe Beach (Somebeachsomewhere, 1:49, $749,898) will be heading from Jules Siegel's Fashion Farms to her new home at Hanover. Gallie Bythe Beach had her first foal, an Always B Miki filly, back in April of this year, and she was bred back to Always B Miki.
Gallie Bythe Beach's 4-year-old full sister Gallic Sea sold just before her as HIP 1098 and went to Shmuel Farhi for $157,000, which was the third-highest price on Thursday. Gallic Sea, who earned $61,294 and took a mark of 1:51 4/5, was last bred to Always B Miki.
Checking in second during the session was HIP 1815 Danish Girl, a 3-year-old Credit Winner half-sister to undefeated Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Trot champion Gimpanzee. Last bred to Muscle Mass, Danish Girl sold to Karen Carroll for $170,000. Danish Girl never made the races, only taking part in five qualifiers, with the last of those coming back in March.
Completing the top five for the day were stallion shares. A share of Muscle Hill (HIP 988) went to Steve Stewart for $150,000, and a share of Chapter Seven (HIP 995) was grabbed by Steve Jones for $140,000.
Preferred Equine Marketing, Inc., as agent, consigned the top five sellers.
The average for the day of $21,568 was up 2.2 percent over last year's $21,102 corresponding session.
The sale wraps up tomorrow with HIPS 1170-1597, plus what's left of the supplemental catalog, on offer and will start at 10 A.M. For full results of the mixed sale so far, click here.
