Harness: Gains at Goshen Yearling Sale
Boosted by three horses that sold for $75,000 or more, including HIP 16 Stop Staring at $95,000, the 2019 edition of the Goshen Yearling Sale, which took place on Sunday at Mark Ford Training Center in Middletown, New York, finished up 15.9 percent on average over last year.
Stop Staring, a colt by So Surreal, went to Ray Schnittker from the Cameo Hills Farm consignment. Stop Staring is out of the Dragon Again mare Paramelons Hanover ($19,455, 1:56 2/5).
Cameo Hills also sold HIP 51 Boozer, an American Ideal-Whiskey A Go Go colt, and HIP 90 Scratch Golfer, a So Surreal-Dune In Red colt, for $75,000, with both of them going home with Paul Kelley.
"I can really only speak for what Cameo Hills has brought here. They have quite a few exceptional yearlings selling today," said Kelley. "But yes the sale has gained good traction over the last few years. It doesn’t hurt when you see good horses racing that you knew were bought here.
"Both HIPs 16 and 51 are exceptional colts that would be well received at any sale."
In all 107 yearlings went through the ring, bringing an average of $14,964. At last year's sale, 116 horses fetched an average of $12,912.
The sale scene now shifts to the Ohio Selected Jug Sale, which takes place on Friday at the Brave Horse Show Park in Johnstown, Ohio.
