JK's Speed (HIP 116) and Royal JK (HIP 105) were both consigned by Victory Hill Farm, Inc. JK's Speed is the third foal out of the Always A Virgin mare Safta Perry ($31,861, 1:53 2/5), making him a half-brother to Rockin Image gelding Rockin Speed ($283,163, 1:49 1/5) and Royal JK is foal number three out of the Pilgrim's Punch mare GT Miss Royal ($230,020, 1:52 3/5), which makes him a half-brother to another Rockin Image gelding in Little Rocket Man ($288,530, 1:47 2/5).
Two yearlings by Swan For All also made it into six-figure territory as HIP 150 Happy Space, a filly, was acquired by S & R Racing Stable for $112,000 from consignor Wilt Standardbred, and HIP 184 Swan Captain, a colt consigned by Oakwood Farm, went to William De Long for $100,000. Happy Space is the first foal out of the Muscles Yankee mare Happy Place. Happy Place is a half-sister to Somebody To Love ($618,686, 1:56), and Happy Space's second dam is former Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Filly Trot champion Pick Me Up ($380,050, 1:57 1/5). Swan Captain is the fourth foal out of the Muscles Yankee mare Yoga ($132,343, 1:54 4/5), making him a half-brother to the Father Patrick filly Shishito ($297,383, 1:52 2/5).
A group of 183 yearlings were sold on Friday, fetching a total of $3,939,700 and an average of $21,528. That average is up 11.4 percent from last year's mark of $19,317, and the gross rose 9.6 percent year-over-year as last year's first session came in at $3,593,000 for 186 head purchased.
