Harness: Friday's cancellations due to unsafe air quality
Buffalo:
Buffalo Raceway has cancelled the races for Friday July 17 due to poor air quality. Racing will resume Saturday July 18, first post 2:30 pm.
Meadows:
Due to deteriorating air quality in the area and in the interest of the safety and well-being of both human and equine participants, Hollywood Casino at The Meadows has canceled its live racing program for Friday, July 17.
Live racing will resume tomorrow, Saturday, July 18 with a first post of 12:45pm. The Saturday card includes several Grand Circuit stakes, including two eliminations for the Grade 1 Delvin Miller Adios Pace for the Orchids, presented by 1/ST BET.
Scioto:
Due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, air quality in the Central Ohio area is at unsafe levels. Therefore, racing at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Friday (July 17) has been cancelled.
The Buckeye Stallion Series races for 2-year-old filly pacers scheduled for Friday will be moved to Sept. 3 at Scioto Downs. The first leg will now be contested Thursday, July 23. The updated schedule for the five legs of the BSS is below.
- Leg 1: Thursday, July 23 @ Scioto Downs
- Leg 2: Monday, Aug. 10 @ Champaign County Fair
- Leg 3: Monday, Aug. 17 @ Northfield Park
- Leg 4: Thursday, Sept. 3 @ Scioto Downs
- Leg 5: Sunday, Sept. 20 @ Delaware County Fair
Racing is scheduled to resume at Scioto Downs on Saturday (July 18).
Mohawk Park:
Woodbine Entertainment has announced tonight’s card of live Standardbred racing at Woodbine Mohawk Park is cancelled due to poor air quality.
Environment Canada’s air quality index for Milton is again listed as ‘High Risk’ and is expected to remain at this level throughout Thursday. Woodbine’s decision to cancel comes through consultation with COSA and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and is consistent with the AGCO’s air quality guidelines.
This cancellation has been made in the best interests of the health and safety of the horses and racing participants.
The Tompkins-Geers Stakes for two-year-old colt and gelding trotters scheduled for Friday will now be cancelled. Nomination and sustaining payments will be split among the entrants.
Details regarding the rescheduling of Friday’s Ontario Sires Stakes Gold for three-year-old colt and gelding trotters and Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots for two-year-old colt and gelding pacers will be released later today.
Qualifiers that were scheduled for Saturday morning have been moved to Monday morning (July 20) at 9 a.m.
Live racing is scheduled to resume Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m.
