Harness: Four nights in the books at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale
Tonight's fourth session of the 2021 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale was topped by HIP 624 Kountry Jon, who sold for $200,000 to Philip Scott.
A Father Patrick colt consigned by Anvil And Lace Farm, Kountry Jon's dam Caddie In Love S is a Varenne half-sister to Caddie Dream, the dam of Readly Express, three-time Horse of the Year in Sweden (2017, 2018, and 2019) and the 2018 Prix d'Amerique champion.
One other yearling made it into six figures during the night, that being HIP 683 American Cruiser, who went for $140,000 to Megan Scran as agent for Todd Luther. Consigned by Brittany Farms, American Cruiser, an American Ideal colt, is the first foal out of the Captaintreacherous mare Lady Captain, a sister to American Jewel (1:48 2/5, $1,840,565) and Luck Be Withyou (1:47 4/5, $1,454,166).
As was the case on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the session once again out-did the corresponding one in 2019. Tonight finished with average of $28,915 and a gross of $4,771,000 (165 horses were sold), while in 2019, those numbers were $27,268 for the average and $4,581,000 for the gross (168 yearlings sold that night).
Heading into Saturday night, which will bring the curtain down on the sale, the average is $71,898 for 715 horses sold, and the gross is a record $51,407,000.
