Harness: Foulk Stable to auction Next Generation entry to benefit OHHA

webmaster|Jun 25, 2020

The Foulk Stable will auction off one of its two entries in the Next Generation at Eldorado Scioto Downs, scheduled for July 4, with the proceeds benefiting the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. Chad Foulk announced his stable’s entry into the 2-year-old filly pace will go up for auction Sunday night on HoofBid.

Foulk purchased an entry into both the filly race and the 2-year old colt pacing event. At the close of entries, both races received more than the nine available slots and a drawing was necessary to determine which nine owners would receive entries. Foulk said he was lucky that his wife’s name was drawn twice. "It was interesting, we were waiting and didn't get our name drawn until the ninth slot in each race. We didn't think we would get into either one."

At the time of entry, owners did not have to designate a horse they were going to enter. As the time to declare a horse was drawing nearer, Fouk said the decision was made to part with the filly entry. "We thought it would be fun to be a part of the Next Generation, unfortunately our yearlings at this time are not good enough to go in the race."

A condition of the race is that entries can be sold, traded, or given away. Foulk said they are putting their entry up for auction. "We are going to put our entry on HoofBid this Sunday to give everyone a chance to bid on the entry to race their horse. I have heard from some owners that did not get in the original drawing that they are interested in the race. We thought it would be good for everyone to buy a spot if it were available."

Foulk said any money over the original $10,000 he receives for his entry will be donated to the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association. "Times are tough right now and I felt if we could do something beneficial for our industry. I think the proceeds from the auction should go back to our industry."

Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association President Steve Bateson says any proceeds the organization receives will be distributed to three worthwhile causes. "Chad Foulk's generous donation to the OHHA will benefit our youth scholarship program for high school seniors and graduate students as well as benefit our equine benevolent program. In addition, some funds will be used for P.A.C.E.R., the association's political action committee to continue to bring awareness to our agricultural equine business."

The auction will take place on Hoofbid.com, the on-line standardbred auction site. Interested bidders can go to Hoofbid.com for instructions on how to download the app and create an account. HoofBid founder Jeff Davis said the auction will begin Sunday night, June 28 at 7:00PM.

"We are excited to help Chad Foulk and the Foulk Stable as well as the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association," said Davis. "We will be donating our fees back to the OHHA to assist their worthwhile programs."
