Harness: Florida legislature divided on the fate of Standardbred racing
According to FloridaPolitics.com, the House committee in Florida amended the gambling "decoupling" bill to require that Pompano Park continue racing in order to maintain its gaming operation. Originally Standardbred racing was excluded from the bill, which only contained Thoroughbred racing.
Also on Tuesday, a second article on the same site revealed that the Senate in Florida approved the original measure to allow the "decoupling" of Harness Racing and gaming.
A final decision is expected to come down on Wednesday.
Pompano Park is coming off a record-breaking meet in which it recorded 21 nights of handle over $1 million and set a 57-year single-night record of over $1.7 million on May 2.
