Harness: Field set for the 95th Prix d’Amerique

DRF Harness Staff|Jan 28, 2016
Up And Quick
Kimberly Rinker/DRF Harness Up And Quick leads the field through the stretch to win the Prix d'Amerique.

A total of 18 trotters will do battle on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 31) in the 1,000,000 Euro Prix d’Amerique at Vincennes in France. The field is led in earnings by Timoko at 3,523,993 Euros and 2015 winner Up And Quick checks in a distant second at 1,930,660.

A 27-time winner, Timoko had his career best finish with a third in last year’s Prix d’Amerique behind Up And Quick. He comes into Sunday’s race off an impressive first-over romp on January 3 in the Prix De Burgundy. Regular Bjorn Goop is expected to be in the bike when they are sent away at 4:20 p.m. local time (10:20 a.m. E.S.T.).

Up And Quick hasn’t won a race in nearly a year and finished fourth behind Timoko at the start of January. He followed that up by finishing 12th in the Prix De Belgium after sitting in last the entire race. That event was won by perhaps the most talked about horse leading up to Sunday’s race, Bold Eagle.

The co-youngest horse in the field at 5 years old, Bold Eagle has a practically flawless record with 20 wins in 23 career races. The son of two-time Prix d’Amerique winner Ready Cash will make his debut in the racing classic on Sunday with Franck Nivard driving for trainer Sebastien Guarato.

Contested at the distance of 2700 meters (1.67 miles), the 95th edition of the Prix d’Amerique contains nine horses which have earned north of 1,000,000 Euros and 42 that have won Group I races.
