The 2018 edition of the Standardbred Horse Sale gets going on Monday, November 5 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and the first session, as usual, features many well-bred yearlings that should bring top dollar from buyers looking for racing and future breeding prospects. Hanover Shoe Farms has their usual strong consignment, and a pacing colt of note they have to offer on Monday is HIP 60 In Reality Hanover.  By Captaintreacherous, he is out of It Was Fascination (American Ideal), making him a full brother to Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Colt and Gelding Pace elim winner Captain Trevor, who also sports a record of 1:49 2/5 taken at The Red Mile. "That's one of our top colts, maybe our top colt,” said Dr. Bridgette Jablonsky, farm manager at Hanover.  “He's got perfect conformation, good size, handsome.  I don't think there's a better update in the book.  He videos great, he's great every time you put him out in the paddock.  If there's a hole in that colt, I have not found it yet.  He's about as perfect a yearling as you could raise and sell." Hanover also has Artspeak colt Esai Hanover (HIP 33) that drew high marks from Jablonsky.  From his first crop, Esai Hanover is out of Easy Go Go (Pro Bono Best), making him a half-brother to the good Somebeachsomewhere gelding Easy Lover Hanover. "He is a really good-sized, correct, handsome horse,” Jablonsky remarked about Esai Hanover.  “He videos well and is good in the paddock.  He's a very, very nice colt.  He definitely is one of our nicest pacing colts, that one. “I'm very, very excited about Artspeak as a stallion.  I always have been.  He's a son of Western Ideal, who is the sire of sires in my opinion right now.  He was precocious, he has a good maternal family, and his foals, they just look the part.  They're very athletic.  He's a half-brother to Easy Lover Hanover, who was a gorgeous yearling himself.  This colt may be actually a size bigger than Easy Lover Hanover, which is funny because this is an Artspeak and Easy Lover Hanover was a Somebeachsomewhere.” Concord Stud Farm, who consigned the likes of Breeders Crown winner Gimpanzee and runner-ups Atlanta and Kissin In The Sand in the last couple years, also has a unique opportunity to acquire the first foal from Michelle’s Jackpot (Artsplace) to be offered at public auction in HIP 94 Mac’s Big Boy.  This Somebeachsomewhere colt is a half-brother to millionaires Michael’s Power and Michelle’s Power (both by Camluck) and a full brother to this year’s Jugette champion Alexa’s Power. "He's a big, tall colt, a very-good looking colt.  He's very racy," said David Meirs III from Concord about Mac’s Big Boy. Moving on to pacing fillies, Concord will, for the first time, have a daughter of West Side Glory (Western Ideal) available for public auction in HIP 154 Love For Sail.  She is by Captaintreacherous, and being out of West Side Glory, is a half-sister to superstar pacing filly See You At Peelers (Bettor's Delight). "I will put her up against any filly in the Standardbred Horse Sale, period,” offered Meirs.  “She is a great-looking individual.  I've had her mother West Side Glory since she was a maiden mare, and I've never seen one that looks as great as this filly does." Concord also has HIP 70 Sweet Smooch.  A daughter of Sweet Lou, her dam Kiss Me is an unraced American Ideal half-sister to Kissin In The Sand (Somebeachsomewhere), and this is her first foal. "She's just an outstanding individual.  She's very well-gaited,” Meirs stated.  “Her mother was a mare that never wore a harness.  She had an issue as a yearling and was bred at two." Hanover also has plenty of pacing filly power, with pedigree to match.  Among them is HIP 111 Poto Hanover.  She is by Bettor’s Delight and is out of Panned Out (Jate Lobell), making her a three-quarter sister to fast colts Panther Hanover, Passmaster Hanover, and Philos Hanover (all by Cam's Card Shark). "Panned Out is retired now, but she's always crossed so well with the Cam's Card Shark line.  We thought we'd breed her to Bettor's Delight and kind of give her that brand,” explained Jablonsky.  “Panned Out is a small mare and her yearlings are always average-sized at best, so breeding her to Bettor's Delight, our one concern was if we were going to get a foal that's too small, but this is a really good-sized filly, really pretty filly.   “She looks the part, and obviously you can't find a much better bred filly if you're looking for a broodmare prospect down the road." HIP 121 Samanzar Hanover also looks like a player during the session.  By Captaintreacherous, this filly is the first foal out of Sawyer, an Art Major half-sister to near millionaire Escape The News (Artiscape). "She's the first foal out of a very good family, and she’s a very good-looking filly,” said Jablonsky.  "For pacing colts I would say the depth is Captains, and with pacing fillies the depth is probably Somebeachsomewhere.  That's just how the numbers shook out. We have a full sister to Filibuster Hanover (HIP 37 Filly On Hanover), and the second foal (HIP 28 Dominican Hanover) out of Darena Hanover who won the Jugette." Sons of Muscle Hill and Father Patrick were in high demand in Lexington and the same should be the case in Harrisburg.  In the opening session, Hanover will offer up HIP 26 Cupid Hanover, a Father Patrick half-brother to Glidemaster, and another Father Patrick in HIP 45 Gangster Hanover, who is out of Glidemaster’s full sister Global Desire (Yankee Glide). "He's a striking, striking colt.  He's not heavy, but he's tall,” Jablonsky remarked about Cupid Hanover.  “One of the tallest yearlings we've sold in recent memory.  He's very dark-colored, just a striking individual.  He's got good temperament and a very good video.  He trots beautiful, and he's very, very handsome.  Gangster Hanover is also very, very nice. "We have several nice Muscle Hill colts.  The colt out of Shared Past (HIP 127 Shadrack Hanover) and the colt out of Exotic Destination (HIP 36 Evander Hanover) are both nice.  We're very strong and deep with trotters.  This was the year Cantab Hall had his surgery, so if we're lacking in anything it's those, but that's just because this was the year he wasn't breeding."  One other trotting colt from Hanover’s consignment to note is HIP 155 Windon Hanover.  Windon Hanover, by Donato Hanover, is out of Winbak Blondie, a Muscles Yankee full sister to Muscle Hill and is a half-brother to Chuck Sylvester’s stakes-winning filly Hey Blondie (Cantab Hall). "He's a very handsome colt, and to me the right type of Donato colt; it's the type of Donato colt that people tend to like,” explained Jablonsky.  “He's not a big, heavy, coarse one.  He's very athletic looking and medium-sized.  He moves well, and he's very handsome.  A very nice colt." Concord has four Muscle Hill sons of their own to sell during the first session, including HIP 13 Swiss House Onfire.  This colt is out of Brooklyn (Conway Hall), who has produced stakes winners Brooklyn Hill and Kings County (both by Muscle Hill).  Brooklyn Hill sold for $390,000 at the 2013 Standardbred Horse Sale and Kings County brought $210,000 at the 2016 edition. "He's a gorgeous colt.  This colt, I think, is, for me, the best-looking individual of the three (brothers of Muscle Hill),” said Meirs.  “I had called the owner (Stefan Balazsi / Order By Stable) and said 'you've got a very special foal out the mare this year' when he was less than six hours old." Offspring of French sire Ready Cash have been showing up here in yearling sales lately and Concord will have two of his sons to sell on Monday.  They are HIP 6 Back Of The Neck and HIP 116 Light Blue Movers.  They are both the first foals out of their respective dams (Andover Hall mare Big Barb for HIP 6 and Muscle Hill mare Prinsessa for HIP 116). "They're two different types of colts.  One's a little bit larger colt (HIP 6),” remarked Meirs.  “Some people like him, and then some people like the other colt who is the first foal out of a Muscle Hill mare.  They're both very fast as the video states.  They're both low-gaited, and I'm very pleased with them." Filly trotters have been some of the biggest ticket items in recent sales, with Beautiful Sin ($480,000) heading last year’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale and Sheer Muscle and The Ice Dutchess ($320,000) topping the 2017 Standardbred Horse Sale.  On the first day of this year’s Standardbred Horse Sale, Concord has a Trixton filly (HIP 133 Krickan) out of the top broodmare Solveig (Yankee Glide).  This will be just Solveig’s third foal offered up at public auction, and with credits like double millionaire Shake It Cerry (Donato Hanover) on her ledger, this will be one to watch. "She is scary-fast,” Meirs said of Krickan.  “Her mother has been at Concord Stud Farm right from her maiden year along with all the foals she's produced.  I think we're looking at around $6.8 million her foals have produced, and this filly carries a lot of her mother's characteristics, but is light on her feet and very fast." Concord will also have HIP 144 Fifty Cent Piece go through the ring on Monday.  This Muscle Hill filly is out of Thatsnotmyname, a Windsong's Legacy half-sister to Muscle Mass and Muscle Massive, and the filly is a half-sister to Basquiat (Cantab Hall), a multi-time stakes winner last year at two. "This filly is very strong and wide,” noted Meirs.  “I just went over this filly with a person out here, turned her out in the field, and he said 'boy, does she ever cover a lot of ground.' She's just an outstanding individual, plus also when we're looking at these females, we're looking at some of the best families in the breed." Hanover also has a very strong group of filly trotters to sell on Monday, including HIP 167 Aldabra Hanover.  A daughter of Muscle Hill, she’s out of Anonyme Hanover (Explosive Matter). "She's from the family of Andover Hall, and she is gorgeous,” said Jablonsky.  “Last year we sold a Muscle Hill filly that I thought to that point in time was the nicest Muscle Hill filly we had sold.  Her name became Cloud Nine Fashion.  This filly is right up there with Cloud Nine Fashion.  She's good-sized, length, moves well, good attitude.  She is to me a real highlight of the consignment when you get a Muscle Hill that nice with a family that good.  She might be one of the highlights of the trotting fillies." Another filly that drew high marks, and for good reason, was HIP 17 Cedarbluff Hanover.  A daughter of Explosive Matter, she is out of millionaire Cedar Dove (Andover Hall) and is a half-sister to When Dovescry (Muscle Hill), the runner-up from Saturday night’s Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Filly Trot. "She's a medium-sized filly, maybe a little immature at this time, but she's coming around with prep and work.  Cedar Dove has to be, by far, the best mare Explosive Matter ever covered,” remarked Jablonsky.  “I'd have to go look at all the records, but off the top of my head I can't think of a mare that's close to Cedar Dove.  He's a great filly sire, and this is an opportunity to get the best-bred Explosive Matter filly that's ever been born in my opinion.  I have very high hopes for that filly." Hanover will also offer their first Ready Cash offspring on Monday in HIP 100 Macron Hanover.  She is out of the Muscles Yankee mare Muscaloosa, making Macron Hanover a half-sister to Walter White (Cantab Hall), who earned $450,000 and won a Grand Circuit event at the Red Mile as a freshman. "Ready Cash is such a tremendous sire.  This is the first time we've raised a Ready Cash, and this is the first Ready Cash I've seen as a baby,” explained Jablonsky.  “She's a very feminine-looking filly, she's not big, but correct.  People tell me that they're not very big horses, the Ready Cashes, but I don't know on my own.  She's interesting.  She comes from a great family.  She's a sister to Walter White, who was a good horse." Three yearlings from the first crop of world champion Sebastian K will pass through the ring on Monday, and the only filly is Winbak Farm’s HIP 44 Amazing Allison.  She is out of Galahad’s Damsel (Pine Chip), making her a half-sister to former Ontario standout Oh Sweet Baby (Angus Hall, $655,089). "That's a nice filly.  She's good-looking, nice and leggy,” said Winbak’s Yearling Manager Jim Ladwig.  “She looks the part, and she's got a racy attitude.  She should do well." All these yearlings, and many more, will be on the block when the action starts Monday in Harrisburg with HIPS 1-172 selling beginning at noon.
