Harness: Brian Sears once again not welcome at Meadowlands
According to multiple sources, including a report on harnesslink, driver Brian Sears was told he cannot participate in the Meadowlands Pace eliminations this Saturday (July 7) night at The Meadowlands.
Reports say that Sears was listed to drive the Jimmy Takter-trained Thinkbig Dreambig in the sixth race first elimination but no driver appears with the entries for that race. Since the Pace is controlled by The Meadowlands, management can dictate who is permitted to participate. Sears would of course be welcome in a race like the Hambletonian since it is not handled by the track.
Sears last competed at The Meadowlands on June 29 and won a leg of the New Jersey Sire Stakes with Greenshoe. His relationship with track operator Jeff Gural has been rocky throughout the years since the driver left to compete at Yonkers full time. Sears was banned from the track for a short period of time in 2014 as well.
Sears told Steve Wolf from Harnesslink that, "It's very disheartening . . . I'm tired of the silliness."
Sears said he would prefer not to make further comments when reached via text.
Gural simply said, "It was his decision," when reached via email and later added that he "didn't want to make a big deal out of it."
