Harmonic gets another shot at stakes in Singletary
ARCADIA, Calif. – A spring spent in the Bay Area nearly made a stakes winner of Harmonic, who runs in Saturday’s $75,000 Singletary Stakes at a mile on turf.
Harmonic finished second by a nose in the Alcatraz Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on May 10 and returned to win an optional claimer at a mile on turf May 25. Those races have trainer Jerry Hollendorfer hoping Harmonic can be a factor in a competitive running of the Singletary.
“We think he’s better on turf,” Hollendorfer said. “He doesn’t mind us shipping him around.”
Harmonic is part of a field of 13 in the Singletary, which serves as a prep for the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes at a mile on turf July 16 at Del Mar. Harmonic drew post 3 and will be ridden by Alex Solis. The last time Solis rode Harmonic, the colt fell after clipping heels in a maiden race on dirt last October.

The Singletary field includes two runners trained by Jeff Mullins – Hero Ten All, who was second in the La Puente Stakes on turf in April, and Soul Driver, who was third in the Pasadena Stakes on turf in March. Soul Driver has not raced since March, when he was sidelined with a sore foot, said Mullins.
Trainer John Sadler starts Zinvor, who won an allowance race for California-breds on turf April 4 and was fifth in the $200,000 Snow Chief Stakes for California-breds on turf May 23.
** Kentuckian, the winner of the Grade 3 Lazaro Barrera Stakes on May 10, continues to excel in morning workouts in advance of the $350,000 Los Alamitos Derby on July 4. On Thursday at Santa Anita, Kentuckian worked seven furlongs in 1:23.60.
“He’s doing that well within himself,” Hollendorfer said. “We think he’s a really nice prospect.”
