Hariboux injured, will miss eight months to a year

The top 3-year-old turf horse in California is done for the year. Hariboux, winner of the Pasadena and Cinema stakes at Santa Anita, sustained an unspecified injury and will be out until 2021, trainer Jeff Mullins said.
“He got hurt, and he’ll be all right,” Mullins said without offering details. “He’s probably going to need eight months to a year off.”
Hariboux emerged this season as California’s most accomplished 3-year-old grass horse. He finished second in the Eddie Logan Stakes for 2-year-olds on Dec. 29, then won the Pasadena on Feb. 29 over next-out stakes winner Smooth Like Strait.
In his most recent start in the Cinema on June 6, Hariboux defeated stablemate K P All Systems Go, an expected contender in the Runhappy Oceanside Stakes on Friday at Del Mar. Early favorites for the Oceanside, for 3-year-olds at a mile on turf, are Hit the Road and El Tigre Terrible.

Hariboux, a gelding owned by Red Baron’s Barn and Rancho Temescal, was imported last fall from England. Hariboux won 3 of 6 starts in the United States; he is 6 of 11 overall and has earned $224,931.
The injury to Hariboux is the second major setback recently for Mullins, Red Baron’s, and Rancho Temescal. Grade 1-winning millionaire River Boyne sustained a sesamoid injury last month at Santa Anita and was retired.
