Hard Spun cruises in Delaware slop

Joe DeVivo|Nov 14, 2006

Hard Spun enhanced his status as the top 2-year-old prospect at Delaware Park with a five-length win in Tuesday's $61,900 Fort Penn Stakes.

On a sloppy track, Hard Spun ($2.60) broke last of five horses but took the lead with a half-mile remaining and was hand-ridden to the wire by Mario Pino. Trained by Larry Jones, he covered six furlongs in 1:10.40.

Jones is considering running Hard Spun, a Pennsylvania-bred son of Danzig, in either the $85,000 H. Steward Mitchell Stakes, a seven-furlong race at Laurel Park on Dec. 2, or the Delta Jackpot, a $1 million, Grade 3 race at 1 1/16 miles at Delta Downs on Dec. 1.
