Happy Saver heads to farm with a spring return the plan

ELMONT, N.Y. – Happy Saver, the undefeated winner of the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, was sent to the Kentucky farm of owners Alain and Gerard Wertheimer in Lexington, Ky. on Wednesday and will a get two-month freshening before returning for a 4-year-old campaign.

Trainer Todd Pletcher said Happy Saver would not be pointed to the Pegasus at Gulfstream Park in January.

“Hopefully, he’ll be ready in April or May,” Pletcher said. “We just felt like he needed a little time. He accomplished a lot in a short period of time. He’s a horse with a lot of natural talent. We’re committed to racing next year and maybe beyond if things go well. We felt the conservative approach right now is the best approach for the long term.”

Meanwhile, Pletcher said that Money Moves, a gutsy winner of a second-level allowance here on Oct. 22, will be pointed to either the Grade 3, $100,000 Discovery at Aqueduct on Nov. 28 or the Grade 3, $100,000 Harlan’s Holiday at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 12.
