Happy Medium wins a Sept. 30 maiden race at Belmont Park

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Happy Medium, third as the 1-5 favorite in Grade 3 Toboggan on Feb. 5, could make his next start in the Grade 3, $200,000 Tom Fool here on March 5, trainer Michelle Nevin said.

Happy Medium had won three straight races in dominating fashion prior to the Toboggan. He set the pace in the Toboggan before finishing 10 1/2 lengths behind winner Drafted.

“He’s been back to the track,” Nevin said. “I really have not come up with a proper excuse. Right now, I’m still kind of feeling the track on the day didn’t suit him.”

Nevin said she would train Happy Medium with the Tom Fool at six furlongs in mind.

“I just want to make sure I’m 100 percent comfortable with his training,” Nevin said. “I want to breeze him back just to make sure he’s the same fella.”
