Hanover Raceway: Dream Of Glory final won by Knight Angel
Despite being parked at every call, Knight Angel drew away in the last quarter to win tonight's C$64,100 Dream Of Glory final for 3-year-old trotters at Ontario's Hanover Raceway in 1:58 2/5.
Cool Clifford (Paul MacKenzie) would work his way around Magical Journey (Steve Byron) for the lead passing the 28 2/5 opening quarter, but Knight Angel (Bruce Richardson) moved up to challenge Cool Clifford in the second quarter, and they were stride-for-stride at the 58 1/5 half.
The battle between Cool Clifford and Knight Angel continued on to the 1:27 1/5 three-quarters, but Knight Angel put away his foe for good past that point and trotted clear to score by 3 1/4 lengths. Cool Clifford did hold second, with Absynthe Hanover (Scott Young) third for Hambletonian-winning trainer Luc Blais and owner Determination.
Knight Angel is an Archangel gelding, and he is co-owned by trainer Shane Arsenault along with Justin Fisher, Gary Leeming, and Giuseppe Mascia. This was his fifth career victory, and he has now earned C$149,026. He was the 2-5 favorite and paid $2.80 to win. Knight Angel had been keeping classy company this year, finishing third to Hambletonian champion Forbidden Trade in an Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Series leg at Woodbine Mohawk Park on June 24.
