Handle rises 3 percent at Golden Gate Fields

Buoyed by a big increase in wagering from out of state, Golden Gate Fields showed a mild increase in its all-sources live handle for its 97-day winter-spring meet that concluded June 12.

Despite running one fewer day than at the 2014-15 meet, Golden Gate’s all-sources live handle was $168,187,963, a 3 percent increase over the $167,748,063 total for the 2014-15 meet. Average daily handle was up 3.8 percent at $1,733,896 from the previous year’s daily average of $1,670,898.

The Golden Pick 6 pool that reached $4,594,997 on the final day drove the increase.

Ontrack average daily handle for local races dipped 2.3 percent from $384,603 last year to $375,548 this year.
