Tom Collins has flagged up five fascinating contenders to keep onside in some of the most competitive races, live on Sky Sports Racing. LEINSTER  Copper Horse Handicap (6.10 Tuesday) This 0-105 handicap features a whole heap of well-treated horses, most of whom are either returning from a jumps campaign or representing new connections.  Both Caballo De Mar and French Master fit into the latter category thanks to owner switches, and it’s easy to see why they were appealing propositions to purchase. That being said, the Irish have won the last two editions of this race and they generally dominate these stamina tests at Royal Ascot, so I wouldn’t be keen to sway too far from the obvious. Charlus will attract money because of his trainer, but I believe that would be misplaced as Leinster is more appealing on paper. This son of Camelot is lightly raced and fairly bolted up at the Curragh on his seasonal reappearance.  Connections tried to stretch him out in distance in the Chester Cup last time and I’m just not sure he wants to go that far. This may be his optimum distance and Ryan Moore is onboard - for those reasons alone he deserves a second look. ENGLISH OAK  Royal Hunt Cup (5.00 Wednesday) Course form counts for plenty at Ascot, especially when it has come during the Royal Meeting in recent years. English Oak ticks that box for trainer Ed Walker, who has done a stellar job in getting this five-year-old’s mark down to 100. Just 12 months ago, English Oak absolutely bolted up in the seven-furlong Buckingham Palace Stakes off 1lb lower (99). It was the type of display that you watch for the first time and immediately assume that you’re seeing a proper Group performer strut their stuff. A RPR of 114 backed it up. Since then he has run seven times without success and he has been gelded. But there were signs that English Oak was coming back to form when he finished sixth at Newbury last time and, if he draws well, we might get another viewing of the Group horse we witnessed last season. ARISAIG  Kensington Palace Stakes (5.35 Wednesday) Ascot’s straight course, Jamie Spencer, and a tricky deep-closing sprinter? Ah, go on then. Arisaig ticks the boxes for a typical horse that many of us look for in these handicaps. In fact, she might even be a little bit too obvious. Charlie Johnston’s filly has caught the eye on all three outings so far this term, most notably on her penultimate run where she got stuck down on the rail at Goodwood. I think she would have almost certainly won with a clear run.  Last time out she bumped into Rainbows Edge, the current market leader for this contest. Not much separated them there and Arisaig has a 2lb weight swing in her favour. Don’t be surprised to see her travel the best at the two-furlong pole before being produced with a late surge. She appears to hang when out in the clear, so a typically cool Spencer ride could be the difference. EL BURHAN  Britannia Stakes (5.00 Thursday) Trainer George Boughey is still seeking his first Royal Ascot win, but he looks likely to get off the mark this year as he has numerous good chances across the week. One of those is El Burhan, who should appreciate a step up in trip to a mile in the Britannia on Thursday. This Shadwell colt showed good promise during his juvenile campaign but regularly shaped as though a stronger stamina test would see him step forward. Connections opted to geld him before this season and it seemed to have a positive effect as he made a winning reappearance at Chester, despite not getting the best of starts or passages through the contest. Extra distance will help him, as will a strong tempo. There is a good chance that Boughey has left a bit in the tank when it comes to this gelding so don’t sleep on him. MORE THUNDER  Wokingham Stakes (5.00 Saturday) Sir Michael Stoute was unable to scratch the surface of this horse’s ability last season, but William Haggas quickly unlocked More Thunder’s talent by dropping him to sprinting trips. He followed an easy reappearance success at Newmarket with another strike at that venue, albeit it didn’t look likely for most of the way. Six furlongs is quite clearly his bare minimum, but the shape of a race like the Wokingham should really suit More Thunder, who will power home late. The draw remains an all-important factor, but he could be one of the best-handicapped horses all week despite going up 11lb in the weights in two months.
