Hamwood Flier leads all the way in Swingtime Stakes

ARCADIA, Calif. - Hamwood Flier led throughout Sunday’s $90,840 Swingtime Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile on turf for her first stakes win in her seventh start.
Ridden by Mike Smith, Hamwood Flier ($3.60) led by as many as eight lengths against six rivals, and held enough of an advantage to prevail by 2 1/4 lengths in the one-mile turf race.
Hamwood Flier was timed in 1:33.34 and earned a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 91.
Counterparty Risk (9-2) finished second, giving trainer Phil D’Amato a sweep of the exacta. Counterparty Risk closed from sixth to finish a nose in front of 8-1 Sugar Fix, who was second in the stretch.
Warrens Candy Girl, Javanica, Rocking Redhead and Natural Colour completed the order of finish.

The Swingtime Stakes was restricted to fillies and mares who had not won a first-place purse worth $60,000 or more to the winner in races at a mile or over, other than statebred stakes, this year.
Hamwood Flier, a 4-year-old Irish-bred filly by the Danehill stallion Kodiac, won for the second time in three starts in the United States in the Swingtime.
Owned by the partnership of Rockingham Ranch and Talla Racing, Hamwood Flier won an allowance race at Santa Anita in May and was second in the restricted Osunitas Stakes at Del Mar on July 23.
Hamwood Flier has won 3 of 7 starts and earned $127,390.
D’Amato said one-mile turf races for fillies and mares such as the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 29 or the $75,000 Kathryn Crosby Stakes at Del Mar on Nov. 12 will be considered for Hamwood Flier.
