Hammersly: Los Alamitos pick three play for Saturday, Dec. 12

Possible keys to a late pick three (races 6-8) are horse who likes it here and looks back on his game with blinkers and a filly with a ton of upside who figures a generous price.

KELLIANNE CAN CAN (#1) is back to likely her best surface - dirt. She graduated on Santa Anita dirt then wasn't disgraced at Del Mar Nov. 19 when third in her first try vs. winners and on turf. She figures to be coming. PICO CHICK (#4) looked good blasting maiden claimers by 9 1/4 lengths at Del Mar Oct. 29, signalling that she may well have turned the corner. NINE POINT NINE (#7) beat maidens at Santa Anita Oct. 25, but then dueled and paid the price vs. tougher at Del Mar Nov. 26, fading to sixth. She's down in class and that may be the key.

Race 7
XINGONTOTHEBONE (#10) romped over maidens here July 4. Things didn't go so well in three straight stakes tries, then he got blinkers reapplied at Del Mar Nov. 27, dropped in class and beat a number of these at 27-1. With blinkers back and on a track he likes he may spring another upset. FAMILY CODE (#6) was the 9-10 favorite when a solid third behind XINGTOTHEBONE in that Nov. 27 race. He has speed and night get his revenge. TOUGH IT OUT (#7) didn't do much on dirt in his first two starts but perked up significantly to beat maidens on turf at Del Mar Nov. 12. With dirt stakes winner Grazen as his daddy there's no reason he shouldn't run well on dirt. Maybe it wasn't the surface but simply maturity that led to his win. RECORD HIGHS (#3) was wide when fourth in that same Nov. 27 race, beaten 1 3/4 lengths. He can be a factor with a better trip and has shown more speed in the past. VIVIENDO EL SUENO (#4) finished smartly to be second in that Nov. 27 race and merits respect.

STREET FANCY (#2) ran on strongly for third in the seven-furlong Desi Arnaz at Del Mar Nov. 15, looking like a filly with talent who'll prefer routing. Well, she gets her route here, and with little separating the main contenders she gets the nod as her price figures to be generous. TREASURING (#1) finished second, a nose in front of STREET FANCY in the Desi Arnaz. She blasted maidens by 7 1/4 lengths here Sept. 19, so she obviously likes it here. PACIFIC HEAT (#4) looked super romping in her only two starts. She didn't necessarily run fast in those two wins but didn't need to, either. There's no telling how good she might be. STAYS IN VEGAS (#3) is the proven commodity, having won four of her five starts, including two dirt sprints and two turf routes. Her lone loss came when she ran fifth in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante when facing division powerhouse Songbird.
SURFSIDE TIARA (#6) was less than a length behind TREASURING and STREET FANCY when she rallied for fourth in the Desi Arnaz. She's certainly bred to handle this game.
