Trainer Tim Hamm holds a very strong hand when he will saddle six of the nine Ohio-bred 2-year-old fillies in the $50,000, six-furlong Miss Ohio Stakes at Thistledown. Four of the Hamm-trained fillies will be coupled in the wagering. Hamm saddles the lone winner in the race, Startin Something, who won the Tah Dah Stakes at River Downs on July 24. Prior to that, she was fourth against males in the Hoover Stakes there on July 10. Startin Something is the most experienced filly in the race, and if she retains her form she should post back-to-back stakes wins. Startin Something is part of the Hamm entry and will be ridden by Jason Lumpkins. Under the allowance conditions of the race, she will carry 118 pounds, three pounds more than each of her rivals. Blingin It is also part of the entry. She set the pace in the Tah Dah before settling for second, beaten 1 1/4 lengths by Startin Something. Blingin It also ran in the Hoover and was beaten 20 lengths. Blingin It will be ridden by Luis Antonio Gonzalez. Verna Marie was third in the Tah Dah, 16 1/2 lengths behind the winner, in her career debut. She is also trained by Hamm and will run as a separate betting interest.
