DEL MAR, Calif. – Lava Man, the Hall of Famer who was treated for colic in late July, was recently transferred from a local equine clinic to trainer Doug O’Neill’s stable at Del Mar. O’Neill said that Lava Man will remain with his stable until the end of the summer meeting here on Sept. 3. Lava Man has been a stable pony for O’Neill. “He’s just chillin’,” O’Neill said. “He’ll stay here until the end of the meet and then go to a farm near Santa Anita. “He looks phenomenal. He’s on a different diet.” Lava Man was kept at the clinic longer than originally scheduled. Lava Man underwent a procedure on July 31 to correct a colon displacement. A 17-year-old, Lava Man won 17 of 47 starts and earned $5,268,706 from 2003-09.
