Half-brothers battle it out in Refrigerator

Mary Rampellini|Oct 04, 2007
Country Chicks Man and Sm Country Cowboy, a pair of Grade 1 winners who are half-brothers, are the top contenders in the Grade 1, $100,000 Refrigerator Handicap on Saturday at Lone Star Park.

The 440-yard race is the first major stakes of the meet, and the winner will earn an invitation to the $1 million Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos on Dec. 15.

Country Chicks Man and Sm Country Cowboy are coupled in the Refrigerator, which drew 10.

"Right now, we're planning to run both of them," said Sparky Mullins, who bred, owns, and trains the horses. Both are out of the mare Country Zevi.

Country Chicks Man is the defending champ in the Refrigerator. He last raced on Sept. 15, finishing seventh in the Grade 1 Go Man Go at Los Alamitos.
