Hadif's Allstar runs best when it counts

Mary Rampellini|Sep 13, 2002

Hadif's Allstar will never be accused of being a morning glory. Not one to wow her connections with flashy workouts in the a.m., she has always shown up when it counts - in the afternoon.

At least that has been the pattern for the unbeaten Hadif's Allstar in her first two career starts, and one trainer Sam David Jr., hopes will continue Sunday when she takes on seven others in the fillies division of the $100,000-estimated Friendship at Louisiana Downs in Bossier City, La.

The six-furlong race is restricted 2-year-olds bred in Texas.

Racing has come easy for Hadif's Allstar. She won her maiden by six lengths against statebreds at Lone Star Park in May, then returned in her next start to win the $40,000 Rebel against open company at Louisiana Downs on Aug. 4.

Between races, Hadif's Allstar has been unassuming in her training, which is something her connections have come to learn is just her style. "She's one of those fillies, you bring her over there, and she gives you a much better effort than you'd think," said David, who trains Hadif's Allstar for John Rester.

"She trains good; she doesn't train excellent. But she does put on her game face when she gets to the paddock. She's a professional when it comes to raceday."

Hadif's Allstar, supplemented to the Friendship for $5,500, moves back to the statebred ranks for the Friendship, and while the class move works to her advantage, she faces some legitimate rivals in the Friendship.

"There's been some pretty tough Texas-breds coming out of the races at Lone Star," said David.

One in particular is Parting, a 12-length maiden winner who finished third last out in the $100,000 Silver Spur Breeders' Cup at Lone Star on July 14. Other starters of note include impressive Lone Star maiden winners Hadifs Quality, who is a full sister to two stakes winners, and Hannah's Royalrock.
