ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Off a graded stakes placing, Haddassah is a good fit in Friday’s featured conditioned allowance, with an $80,000 claiming option, at Woodbine. Haddassah got his 15 minutes of fame capturing the 2021 Prince of Wales Stakes, the middle leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, on the dirt at Fort Erie. He wasn’t far back in eighth in the Queen’s Plate but was a well-beaten 11th in the Breeders’ Stakes on turf, the last leg of the triple crown. Haddassah has been much more consistent this year. After closing for third in each of his first two outings in the spring, he cleared the second allowance condition in front-running style traveling about 1 1/8 miles on the main turf, the same course and distance of Friday’s headliner. Haddassah checked in third most recently in the Grade 2 King Edward behind Filo Di Arianna and Harlan Estate, who are both aiming for the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! He said the son of Air Force Blue has matured significantly this year. “He’s really blossomed a lot from 3 to 4,” Attard explained. “I wish he would have been like this for the Queen’s Plate run last year, because I think he could have been a lot more competitive there. Every race he’s run this year has been a pretty good effort. He’s more relaxed. I think that’s why he can come from off the pace. Last year, he was a little more headstrong.” Canadian Hall of Famer Gary Boulanger retains the mount on Haddassah. “Boulanger knows him and rides him well,” Attard said. “The two of them get along really well.” Hombre should be among the favorites in the six-horse field. The much-traveled Ontario-bred is making his debut outside of the United States. Hombre won the second allowance condition on June 3 at Churchill, after switching trainers from Barclay Tagg to Cherie DeVaux. He has been idle since a wide seventh-place finish in a third-level allowance/optional claimer on July 2 at Belmont that contained two next-out winners, from which victorious Sifting Sands exited to finish a close second in the restricted Lure Stakes at Saratoga. Declan Carroll will ride Hombre in the 4-year-old’s first start for trainer Roger Attifield, who has a 10 percent success rate with new acquisitions. Money Printer is coming off back-to-back allowance scores on different surfaces with a pair of 90 Beyer Speed Figures and shouldn’t be out of his league under Justin Stein. He was claimed for $40,000 by trainer Larry Attard last fall. Dun Drum is stepping up off a victory in a 1 1/4-mile Tapeta route and retains the hot apprentice Slade Jones. Completing the field are English Conqueror and the 2021 Plate Trial winner Avoman.
