Barbara D. Livingston Starting with the Great Lady M., Reylu Gutierrez will move his tack to California for the summer.

Reylu Gutierrez, who has won more than 100 races annually in five of the last six years, will begin riding in Southern California this week.

Gutierrez, 27, is scheduled to ride Daddysruby in Saturday’s Grade 2 Great Lady M. Stakes at Los Alamitos and ride there through Sunday’s closing day of the current summer meeting.

The $200,000 Great Lady M. Stakes is run at 6 1/2 furlongs for fillies and mares and is California’s leading summertime sprint for fillies and mares. Daddysruby, trained by Peter Miller, won the Grade 1 La Brea Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at seven furlongs at Santa Anita last December.

Daddysruby is winless in two starts this year – a third in the Spring Fever Stakes for California-bred fillies and mares at Santa Anita on Feb. 18 and a second by three-quarters of a length in the $250,000 Matron Stakes at Oaklawn Park on March 30. Gutierrez will have the mount for the first time in the Great Lady M.

Gutierrez will ride the Del Mar summer meeting that begins on July 20. Last summer, Gutierrez rode briefly at Del Mar, winning once with 12 mounts.

Gutierrez has won 661 races in a career that began in 2017. He won a career-best 138 races in 2021 and had 108 wins last year. Through Sunday, Gutierrez has 39 wins this year.

Aside from Daddysruby, the Great Lady M. Stakes field is expected to draw the stakes winners Chismosa, Richi, Super Shine, Sweet Azteca, and Three Witches, plus Anywho, who was fourth behind Chismosa as the 6-5 favorite in the Desert Stormer Stakes at Santa Anita on June 2.
