Gunnevera breezes for Harlan's Holiday

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Gunnevera, who finished in a dead heat for fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, had his first work back since returning from the West Coast, breezing an easy five furlongs in 1:02.18 on Sunday morning at Gulfstream Park West with jockey Edgard Zayas aboard.
Trainer Antonio Sano said he was very pleased with the move and that Gunnevera will close his 3-year-old campaign in the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday here Dec. 16 as a stepping-stone to the $16 million Pegasus World Cup six weeks later.

Sano is hoping he might have another top 3-year-old prospect on his hands for next season after sending out Santiamen to a very impressive 6 3/4-length triumph in his career debut against maiden special weight foes last Friday at Gulfstream Park West. He earned a 67 Beyer Speed Figure.
Santiamen – “en un santiamen” means “in a flash” in Spanish – brought $37,000 at the 2-year-olds in training sale last March in Ocala, Fla. A Florida-bred son of Dialed In, Santiamen will make his next start Dec. 9 against statebreds in the Smooth Air Stakes, Sano said.
The 2-year-old filly Others Will Follow overcame a very slow start to launch her career with an 10 1/4-length triumph Saturday at Gulfstream Park West. She received a 79 Beyer Speed Figure.
Others Will Follow, a daughter of Jimmy Creed, fetched $52,000 last fall at the Keeneland September sales. She is trained by Larry Pilotti for Imperial Racing LLC.
