Gumboots takes Fury Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Gumboots ($3.80) established herself as one of the favorites for the June 11 Woodbine Oaks Sunday in the $151,200 Fury Stakes.

Gumboots set a moderate early pace in the seven-furlong test for Ontario-foaled 3-year-old fillies, and was joined on the lead by Mayan Magic and Dream Lover through a half in :46.38 seconds. She took control exiting the turn, and held a persistent Like a Gem at bay in the stretch to score by a neck, in a final time of 1:24.13. Strike Softly was third in the eight-horse field.

"She was very relaxed and off the bridle," said David Clark, who rode Gumboots for trainer Josie Carroll. "I just left her alone and let her do what she wanted to do."

Gumboots earned $90,000 for her owner and breeder, Eaton Hall Farm.
