Gulstream Park: Havana probable for Swale Stakes

Harpoon, In Trouble, and Surfing U S A all were nominated to the Grade 2, $200,000 Swale Stakes, a seven-furlong race to be run at Gulfstream Park next Saturday. Trainer Todd Pletcher on Friday said that Havana was scheduled for his first start of the year in the Swale, but that a final decision on where he, Harpoon, and Surfing U S A all race would be made following workouts Sunday morning.

The unbeaten No Nay Never, who won group stakes at Royal Ascot and Deauville last year, is scheduled to make his first start of the year in the Swale for trainer Wesley Ward. The Swale would be his first race on dirt after those two wins on turf in Europe and one on Polytrack at Keeneland.
Coup de Grace, 10th in the Holy Bull after two wins around one turn, was nominated to the Swale but is unlikely to run, trainer Chad Brown said Friday morning.
“I’m looking to cut him back, but I don’t know that he’s ready to run back quite yet,” Brown said.
