Gulfstream: Zero Rate Policy vs. Apriority again in Sunshine Millions Sprint

David Grening|Jan 26, 2012

Zero Rate Policy led for every jump but the last when he lost a nose decision to Apriority in the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 31. With different tactics, Zero Rate Policy will look to turn the tables on Apriority in the $150,000 Sunshine Millions Sprint.

Zero Rate Policy inherited the lead when he was along the inside and Apriority stumbled in the Mr. Prospector. Prior to that, Zero Rate Policy came from off the pace to win the Sunshine Stakes here on Dec. 3.

Terri Pompay, the trainer of Zero Rate Policy, said she would like to see jockey Paco Lopez employ those same off-the-pace tactics on Saturday.

“I like my post position much better just because there’s speed in there too, so we don’t have to go,” Pompay said. “We can break and get a comfortable position and sit right there, and then hopefully we can stay in front of Apriority, who’s going to be on our outside.”

Part of that speed will be supplied by Royal Currier, a stake-record holder for six furlongs at Parx who breaks from the rail.
