Went the Day Well, one of three Kentucky Derby candidates trainer Graham Motion has for Team Valor International along with Howe Great and Lucky Chappy, could make his next start in the Grade 3 Vinery Racing Spiral at Turfway Park. Went the Day Well, who launched his career on grass in England, was an impressive maiden winner over the main track going one mile and one sixteenth here earlier this month in just his second U.S. appearance. “Our biggest concern is whether he’ll be able to get into the Spiral if the race overfills because he’s only a maiden winner to this point,” said Motion. Motion used a win in the Grade 3 Spiral as a springboard for Animal Kingdom’s victory in the 2011 Kentucky Derby. ◗ Grade 1 winner Jersey Town worked an easy five furlongs in 1:01.89 after the second renovation break here Wednesday. It was the first five-furlong work this winter for Jersey Town, who has not started since the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
