Gulfstream stewards suspend Carlos Lugo 30 days for ride on Sunday's card
HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - The Gulfstream Park stewards on Friday suspended jockey Carlos Lugo for 30 calendar day for “failure to persevere” when riding Princess Tereska in the fourth race here on Sunday. Princess Tereska finished a well beaten fourth in a field of nine as the 4-1 third choice in the wagering.
Lugo’s suspension begins this coming Monday.

Princess Tereska was one of two horses in the fourth race on Sunday, a bottom-level maiden-claiming races for fillies and mares, trained by Juan Reviriego and owned by Long Trail Stables LLC. The other, Rubysa, was bet down from her 15-1 morning line to 5-2, then led at every call and won the race by 4 3/4 lengths, paying $7.40. Rubysa had been ridden by Lugo and trained by Francisco D’Angelo while beaten a combined 32 lengths against similarly priced maiden competition in her only two previous starts.
The stewards said they will continue to look into the race.
Lugo had eight wins from 113 mounts during the spring-summer meet at Gulfstream.
