Gulfstream purses to get 10 percent boost
Gulfstream Park will raise purses an average of 10 percent beginning on July 23, the Hallandale Beach, Fla., track announced in a release.
Gulfstream's third summer of live racing continues to show increases in business over the first two. According to the release, Gulfstream handled $8 million on the July 5 Summit of Speed card, compared to $4.7 million handled at Calder in 2013, the last time it was run.
"Business has been good," said P.J. Campo, Gulfstream's general manager and vice president of racing for track owner The Stronach Group. "Our summer program continues to grow and there's been great participation from horsemen around the country."
Bill White, president of the Florida Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association, said: "The horsemen are very happy to hear about the purse increase. I think its evidence of Gulfstream Park and the horsemen working together to make this happen."
