Gulfstream-Pompano signals cut

Gulfstream Park and nearby Pompano Park have dropped an agreement to simulcast each other's races in response to questions raised by state regulators about the legality of the practice.

The last card scheduled to be simulcast under the agreement was Tuesday night's program from Pompano Park, track officials said. The agreement had gone into effect just 17 days earlier, on March 24.

State regulators called the agreement a violation of state racing rules that determine which signals can be broadcast in Broward County, where both Gulfstream and Pompano are located.

The state Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering notified the tracks on April 8 that it intended to fine them $1,000 per race that was simulcast. David Roberts, the director of the division, said on Tuesday that regulators still intended to levy the fine against the tracks going back to March 24.
