RACE 6: BEAR CLAW NECKLACE held on for second at this nonwinners-of-two level last out in his debut for hot trainer David Fawkes, who has an excellent 23 percent strike rate second time off a claim going back five years ($1.49 ROI). SHADOW CAST is another runner with speed who could do some damage second time off the claim by a high-percentage trainer. WISTUCKY has been saddled with the one-hole, and the rail has not been the place to be at this meet on dirt, but he has the highest last-out Beyer in the field and could improve off the Jose D’Angelo claim. (3) RACE 7: BURNING BRIDGES breezed quickly while beating company with no portable rail up on the Palm Meadows turf Feb. 6. His red-hot sire, Not This Time, has produced 17 percent debut winners and 16 percent turf sprint winners. His dam was a Grade 3-placed grass sprinter who has dropped three turf winners. FINDING CANDY was a prominent second among two next-out winners in his improved second start in a five-furlong maiden special on the turf. The son of leading turf sire Twirling Candy could be even better with the addition of Lasix. (2) RACE 8: STEEZE came up a neck short after attending the pace last out while earning a career-high 93 Beyer, which exceeds the Beyer par of 91 for this level. STATESMAN got a 91 Beyer when third in the aforementioned Jan. 17 event, which was his first start since April 5. ONLY IN AMERICA has worked well at Palm Beach Downs since ending up second on Dec. 14 behind Accelerize, who subsequently won a Grade 3 stakes at Fair Grounds with a 97 Beyer. FLY THE W ran wide over a track with a golden rail when a sagging fifth in his penultimate start at Woodbine. The venerable veteran beat two next-out winners when second here most recently in another Tapeta route and has a solid turf record. (2) RACE 10: PLEASANT EMBRACE, a seven-time winner in 15 starts, is returning from a layoff and can fire big when fresh. She’s been working regularly at Palm Meadows and could lead all the way. NIC’S STYLE was competitive in stakes before ending up a chalky second at this level while reacquiring Lasix on Jan. 22. ECLATANT, who won the Grade 3 Forward Gal here last February, is adding Lasix while exiting another layoff and has been working right along at Payson Park for top layoff trainer Brad Cox. (3) RACE 11: AU NATUREL dead-heated for third as part of a blanket finish for second in his lone turf outing against $25,000 maidens on Jan. 4. Trainer David Fawkes has impressive numbers second time off a claim and when giving Tyler Gaffalione a leg up. DAVID PEPPERMAN has been knocking on the door at this price. TENNESSEE WALTZ was a bust on the Tapeta, but the son of Connect is bred for the grass on both sides of his pedigree and could be the sleeper.
