Gulfstream Park notes: Ocala beckons to My Pal Chrisy

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Trainer Marty Wolfson sent out one of his top filly and mare sprinters, My Pal Chrisy, to breeze an easy half-mile in 49.65 seconds here early Wednesday morning. The work was the first for My Pal Chrisy since her third-place finish in the Grade 2 Go for Wand at Aqueduct on Nov. 29. My Pal Chrisy had won all three of her starts, all stakes, since being purchased privately by Farnsworth Stables and turned over to Wolfson this summer.

“She had a bad post, broke a bit slow, and there was no pace in New York,” Wolfson said. “I’ll probably run her back in the Ocala.”
The Ocala for Florida-breds will be decided at a mile Dec. 29.
Wolfson also said he will look at the Grade 3 Hal’s Hope on Jan. 11 for Simmstown’s 2014 debut. Simmstown captured Calder’s Kenny Noe Jr. Handicap on Saturday.
Dania Beach gets nine
A field of nine 2-year-old fillies was drawn for Saturday’s Grade 3 Dania Beach, including the McGaughey-trained Mr. Speaker and a pair for trainer Chad Brown, Request and Pleuven. The remainder of the field comprises Imaginethatmom, Cabo Cat, Yes I’m Lucky, Bon Accord, Here’s Johnny, and Hesinfront.
Conspicuous by his absence will be trainer Todd Pletcher, who did not enter a horse in the Dania Beach despite nominating seven fillies to the race.
Blink and you miss them
Wednesday might have been a scheduled dark day at Gulfstream, but there was still live parimutuel action, with a pair of 150-yard races conducted under the auspices of the Gulfstream Park Thoroughbred Aftercare Racing Program.
Jockey Edgar Zayas rode the winners of both events, carded under starter allowance conditions for a $5,000 purse. Desirable Lady won the opener, and A Centurian the second race.
