Gulfstream Park notes: Falling Sky might target Carter

Trainer George Weaver is considering his options with Falling Sky in the wake of a breakout 5 1/2-length victory by the 4-year-old colt Saturday in the Grade 3 Gulfstream Park Sprint.
“As fast as he ran, we might just wait for the Carter,” said Weaver, referring to the Grade 1 Carter Handicap, a seven-furlong race on April 5 at Aqueduct. “We want to keep him at seven-eighths or shorter, so there’s really nothing on the horizon for him here at Gulfstream. We might consider a couple other races and maybe even going to Dubai, but I’ll have to see how he trains the next few weeks before we decide.”
Weaver noted that Falling Sky led through splits of 22.61 and 44.37 seconds, meaning the colt sped the second quarter in less than 22 seconds.
“When he went that second quarter so fast, I thought we were in trouble,” he said. “You sure don’t win a lot of races like that. When you do, you’re like, ‘Wow.’ ”
Falling Sky earned a career high 104 Beyer Speed Figure in the victory. Meanwhile, the Beyer from his prior start, a Jan. 11 Gulfstream optional claimer in which he was a close second to Revolutionary, has been retroactively readjusted, from a 92 to a 102. Likewise, Revolutionary, seventh in the Donn Handicap on Sunday after a poor start, had his Jan. 11 Beyer adjusted from a 93 to a 103.
