Gulfstream Park notes: Contreras sore after Saturday spill

Jockey Luis Contreras took off his three mounts Sunday while still sore from being thrown from his mount in a turf-course incident involving three horses in the fourth race Saturday. Abdiel Jaen and Emma-Jayne Wilson were thrown from their mounts in the maiden special weight race after 3-year-old Recall Dynaformer, ridden by Contreras and trained by Roger Attfield, suddenly fell in front of them near the quarter pole.
Wilson had no scheduled mounts until Thursday. Jaen was unhurt, but Recall Dynaformer had to be euthanized. The other two horses involved were not seriously injured.
◗ Weekend business at Gulfstream was terrific, with Saturday all-sources handle totaling $16,272,688 and Sunday drawing another $14,242,635. Although general admission is free at Gulfstream, it appeared a slightly larger crowd was on hand Saturday, even with Sunday offering the Donn and the farewell to Groupie Doll.
◗ Even with not so much as one allowance race here Wednesday, there still is this incentive for horseplayers: The carryover in the 20-cent pick six has grown to $599,033. The one-winner-only jackpot wager drew another $293,725 in gross handle Sunday, with provisional winners getting $18,476 apiece. There also is a carryover of $31,388 in the $1 Super High 5 on the last race Wednesday.
