Gulfstream Park: Injured hotwalker regains consciousness

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Transito Salazar, a hotwalker who suffered serious head injuries after reportedly falling from the balcony of one of the dormitories at Gulfstream Park early Sunday morning, has regained consciousness but remains in serious condition at Aventura Hospital, according to his employer, trainer Peter Walder.

Walder said Monday that a nurse in the intensive care unit said Salazar was admitted with internal bleeding in his brain and that his injuries were life threatening.

Walder said there continues to be conflicting reports as to how the accident occurred. Track officials have declined to comment on the incident, which remains under investigation by the Hallandale Police Department.
