Gulfstream Park horses to watch: Week of March 29
Mish Mosh
Trainer: Mike Maker
Last race: March 20, 9th
Finish: 3rd by 1 1/2
Beyer: 86
Racing in an optional claimer going five furlongs on turf, this horse performed well to finish a close third, missing second by a neck. He was claimed out of the race by owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trainer Mike Maker, who had the horse previously. This horse is 8 for 11 on synthetic tracks, so he ought to be dangerous next out on the Polytrack at Keeneland.
Hit Squad
Trainer: Ignacio Correas IV
Last race: March 21, 10th
Finish: 2nd by 1/2
Beyer: 83
Didn’t win her first race until her 12th start but has shown rapid development this winter at Gulfstream and bears watching. She likely was best when competing in a starter allowance March 21 but was blocked in the lane, only to get out too late; finished very well once clear.
Heart Stealer
Trainer: Marty Wolfson
Last race: March 22, 10th
Finish: 1st by 2
Beyer: 96
Rebounded from a poor performance in the Hurricane Bertie to win the Inside Information in fast time, recording her second graded stakes victory; looks to be developing into one of the top female sprinters in the country, and now, being a winner at seven-eighths, a race like the Grade 1 Humana Distaff at Churchill Downs on the Derby undercard looks like a prime spot to return.
