Gulfstream Park horses to watch: Week of March 15
Console
Trainer: Mike Maker
Last race: March 9, 5th
Finish: 3rd by 7 3/4
Beyer: 80
Improved off the claim for Maker, but was too keen early in this very good starter allowance, running off to an eight-length lead after six furlongs in 1:08.19. Not surprisingly, he tired but did well to hold third under the circumstances. Merits backing if cut back to a turf or Polytrack sprint.
Henny Jenney
Trainer: Bill Connelly
Last race: March 7, 7th
Finish: 2nd by 1 1/4
Beyer: 75
Following up a good effort on Ocala’s synthetic track, this filly rallied to be second in a turf sprint behind the accomplished Sweet Emma Rose. Should be appealing if she makes her next appearance on grass or on Polytrack at Keeneland next month.
I Wish I Wish
Trainer: Stephen DiMauro
Last race: March 6, 7th
Finish: 3rd by 8
Beyer: 26
Was scheduled to debut going five furlongs on turf, but the race was transferred to a sloppy main track after a mid-afternoon downpour. She ran well as the only first-timer in the field, chasing the pace while taking slop in her face and finishing evenly to be third. She has upside second time out and likely to be overlooked off a 26 Beyer.
