Gulfstream Park horses to watch: Week of Feb. 22
HALLOWED
Trainer: Robert Ribaudo
Last race: Feb. 15, 7th
Finish: 2nd by 3
Beyer: 68
This 3-year-old colt rebounded from a dull effort to make a terrific upper-stretch move before having to settle for second at 21-1 in a salty Feb. 15 maiden special weight sprint and shouldn’t be much longer for the maiden ranks.
MINSTREL ROAD
Trainer: Eddie Kenneally
Last race: Feb. 13, 3rd
Finish: 1st by 9
Beyer: 67
Triumphed so easily after being moved from the turf to the dirt by Kenneally that this Florida-bred gelding could quite conceivably win right back on the requisite class raise, even if the jump appears a little much.
SKY SKIER
Trainer: Kelly Breen
Last race: Feb. 14, 8th
Finish: 3rd by 4
Beyer: 71
Did lots of the dirty work on the front end but still held on better than the 2-5 favorite, Calistoga. Two-back victory for this New Farm filly put her talent on display; should be a real threat in the N2X ranks next out.
BEAR’S BIG BOY
Trainer: Sid Attard
Last race: Feb. 16, 3rd
Finish: 7th by 8 1/4
Beyer: 53
Lost all chance in a fairly tough N1X allowance turf sprint when getting away poorly, but his prior efforts strongly suggest he belongs at that level. Clean break obviously gives him a shot.
