Gulfstream Park horses to watch: Week of Feb. 15
Jessie Can Mambo
Trainer: Mike Maker
Last race: Feb. 6, 1st
Finish: 2nd by 1 3/4
Beyer: 63
She ran well on the drop from $20,000 to $12,500, finishing second in an even performance. She was claimed out of the race by trainer Mike Maker for assistant Laz Guerra, who has a history of success with claims.
Munnings Sister
Trainer: Barclay Tagg
Last race: Feb. 6, 9th
Finish: 1st by 3/4
Beyer: 93
A front-runner, she withstood a furious pace to win the Awesome Feather, and with the retirement of Groupie Doll, the female sprint division is without a leader at this time in Florida. She has a strong chance to repeat if spotted in a stakes race going six furlongs or shorter.
Cary Street
Trainer: Brendan Walsh
Last race: Feb. 8, 9th
Finish: 2nd by 4 1/2
Beyer: 82
A horse claimed for $10,000 last year at Gulfstream, he ran some good races in allowances at Churchill Downs in May and June before going off form and being freshened. He returned in top form by rallying for second in a fast race off a layoff extending back to September. He should move forward off the comeback race.
